The game is based on deduction and asking the right questions. One player takes on the role of the narrator, reads the entire story on the back of the card, and reveals only a brief prompt or the final situation to the other players (the guessers). The guessers then use questions that can only be answered with YES or NO to try, step by step, to unravel how the whole story unfolded. For those looking for a greater challenge, the game also offers an advanced mode in which the guessers play against each other and earn skull tokens for particularly clever questions.

This darkly entertaining logic game is a great choice for evenings with friends and family, at parties, or while traveling. It will sharpen your wit, logical thinking, and ability to look at mysteries from unusual angles.

At the start of each round, the players choose one storyteller from among themselves, while everyone else becomes a guesser. The storyteller draws the top card from the deck and reads aloud the text on its front side, which briefly describes the final situation of the mystery. The storyteller then asks the key question: “How did this happen?” The full explanation of the entire story is written on the back of the card—but the storyteller reads this only to themselves and does not reveal it to the guessers.

The guessers’ task is to work together to uncover the entire plot. They may ask any questions they like, but these must be phrased so that they can be answered with only YES or NO. If a guesser asks an open-ended question or inquires about a detail that cannot be evaluated in this way, the storyteller must insist that the question be rephrased. At the same time, the Storyteller ensures that questions are not based on false assumptions and, at their discretion, may warn players if they are heading in a completely irrelevant direction. There is an unwritten rule: the solution on the back of the card is the only correct one, and the Storyteller’s word is final.

For players who want to introduce competition into the investigation, the rules offer an advanced mode consisting of three rounds. In this mode, the guessers do not play as a single team but compete for the title of professional investigator. In each round, the storyteller has 5 skull tokens at their disposal and uses them to reward individual guessers for particularly clever questions that move the group closer to uncovering the truth. Whoever has the most skulls at the end of the three rounds is declared the winner.
